Butterfly Garden: Serena Eve Richardson

Butterfly Garden
by Serena Eve Richardson

There are too many bodies
in the butterfly garden at the zoo
Humans outnumber the blooms
consume awe like nectar
They press an afternoon
into memory and trample through

Wings litter the ground
The exhibit will close soon
A parent picks up their toddler
Broken butterflies flop into the bushes
They try to be caterpillars
crawling the skin of the earth
